Farmer's Market
It seems this year it has taken longer for the warmth to come. The grass is finally green, the buds on the trees are finally starting to open and the daffodils and tulips are looking beautiful.
So, we are finally getting ready to go out and enjoy the weather and one of my favorite visits during the summer is to Farmer's Market's. We spend our winter's going to the grocery store and finding our vegetables, fruits, bakery, etc. We purchase these products which come from other areas of the United States and outside of the country. I look foward to this time of year so I can support and purchase from our local producers.
As I was leaving for lunch the other day I saw the sign for the Farmer's Market on Calhoun Rd.(just south of North Ave.) in Brookfield. I look forward to stopping there for my first buy of the year!
If you would like to find a Farmer's Market near you and what they have available, visit www.wisconline.com. Click on "attractions" and go down to Farmers Markets. You will be surprised at how many markets there are in Wisconsin!
A few that I would highly suggest and I enjoy visiting is the West Allis Farmers Market, the West Bend Farmers Market and the Dane County Farmers Market at the Capital in Madison.
I plan on taking the list from the website and traveling around to even more markets this year. How exciting to know my food has been grown locally, to see the choices of heirloom tomatoes, the selection of melons, fresh flowers, strawberries and rhubarb, meats, eggs, honey, maple syrup... AND, if you are find the need to eat as you purchase your produce, so many of the markets have bakery, sandwiches, etc. You can go hungry and leave very full (grocery bags and stomach)!
Enjoy your days at the market!!
