A pirate's experience at the Discovery World in Milwaukee
Do you or your children love the movie series "Pirate's of the Caribbean?" Have you ever wanted to sail the ocean blue? Well, you have your chance to take a two hour tour of Lake Michigan in a schooner built in 2000, but designed and built to look like a 19th century three-masted Great Lakes schooner!!
The S/V Denis Sullivan is a beautiful schooner which is used by Discovery World for research, it is considered a "sailing school". To visit the boat, you have two options. There are Day Tours and also Deck Tours. For information, days, times and cost go to www.discoveryworld.org What is neat about taking the tour is you can actually participate in the workings of the ship. You can take a turn at the helm (I'm sure the kid in all of us would love to do that!) or help set the sails. If you only have interest in sitting and watching the landscape and enjoy the ride, you can do that too! Deck tours are available as well for those who don't have sea legs and want to just take a look at the magnificent "work of art."
And, since you are at Discovery World, don't forget to check out the inside of the building. There are activities (sleepovers), programs (Summer camps), and tours (behind the scenes), which are going on all summer long. If you decide to go in August and September and happen to be there on a Friday, plan to stay for "Fish Fry and a Flick." We have done this the past two summers and it is a blast. The fish fry is good and the movies are fun to watch. Bring chairs, blankets and enjoy the night. For a list of what movies will be playing, just click on the left side on the home page and there will be a list (I will definitely be there August 19th!!).
Enjoy the summer!!
