Wedding attire for the summer
I was talking to a coworker today about my nephew and his fiancé’s wedding coming up at the end of the month. I had been told by someone their dresses were going to be burgundy so I thought I was safe wearing a red dress that I bought. Come to find out a couple weekends ago when we had the bridal shower, the bridesmaids are going to be in red!! Yikes, what do I do? Do I still wear the dress I bought or go with something else as I don't want to "match" the bridesmaids.
My coworker said at least I wasn't wearing white, that was a real "no, no." But I retorted that I just read in a magazine article recently that you can wear white, but don't have it look like a bridal dress. She then stated that it wasn't good to wear black either, was it? I said I had read you can wear black as long as you don't look as if you are going to a funeral.
So, since I was having this discussion, I thought why not blog a little about it..
I found the article I was reading previously and it is in Wisconsin Woman of Greater Milwaukee, Vol. 12 No. 6, June 2011. It's a complimentary magazine I get from the Walgreen's across from where I work. On page 17 is the article "What to Wear to a Wedding". It gives tips on heels to wear, daytime wedding vs. evening weddings (that is what I am going to), jewelry and "nontraditional" weddings.
I also Googled information about what to wear and there are many sites which come up. There are even YouTube videos about what to wear. I found one site which seems to almost have it all about weddings and so much more: ehow.com. Just put in what you are specifically looking for and the information will pop up if it is available. I put in "How to dress for a wedding" and the selection was extensive. From "How to dress for a Wedding Reception," "How to dress for a Spring Wedding" to "Summer Wedding," "Casual Wedding," Beach or Outdoor Wedding, etc... Wow! Who would have thought there would be so much information available. There definitely doesn't need to be any more guessing involved in what to wear for the appropriate time and place!
And, I thought the bride was the one with all the decisions to make! My choice will be something comfortable and fun (that doesn't match the bridesmaids~!)
