With spring soon upon us, I know I'm starting to get the itch to do some repairs to my home. What better place to go to meet and interview many different vendors in one place?
If you have time, February 9th through 12th, consider going to the Milwaukee NARI Home Improvement Show...There apparently will be over 700 booths, an outdoor living area (which is one of my favorite areas to visit and get great ideas!), and many other fun activities to participate in and see.

There are so many things to do during the Christmas season and I just wanted to remind everyone not to forget about the great theatre and music we have in Milwaukee! Take a night out to see a favorite show, i.e.:A Christmas Carol and The Nutcracker or maybe something different/new.
Other websites to check out for their productions in performance now and in the future:
Enjoy the season and the show!!

Who says you have to wait to celebrate the holiday season? Not me!! Growing up and living in the Cedarburg area has always been special, in a way it's like living back in the earlier 1900's due to the historic buildings and homes and how friendly everyone is. At no other time of year does one have this feeling more than at Christmas time. Cedarburg lights up with old time Christmas decorations, the storefronts are lit up all evening long, homes on the main street as well as off the beat and track are festive and activities are occurring throughout the season. Click here to get an idea of some of the exciting, upcoming events.
First is the Five Festive Friday Eves, which highlights all of Cedarburg. Stores stay open later and at the Cedar Creek Settlement there are different activities every Friday. The first festive friday is November 18th and it includes an ugly sweater contest!! While viewing the individuals in their festive wear, you can nibble on cookies, drink complimentary cider and view the luminarias. The following day is Breakfast with Sanda which takes place at the Cedarburg Community Gym. The second Festive Friday has "make it and take it" which includes holiday projects and temporary tattoos. One of the most popular Craft/Art Fairs in Wisconsin during the holiday season is on Dec. 2nd-4th and it's called "Christmas in the Country."
This is just a sample of what to look forward to in the upcoming weeks and a couple other sites I would suggest to view for more ideas are: www.cedarcreeksettlement.com; www.cedarburgjuniors.org; www.cedarburgartistsguild.com; and www.cedarburgculturalcenter.org.
Have a great start to the holiday season, it's one of my favorite times of the year!!!

Okay, you have just spent your past weekend raking leaves and trimming your sidewalk and driveway...AND, you don't want to stay home this coming weekend. You want to be able to get out and enjoy the fall colors and weather!
Well, I have a great suggestion for everyone! I have done this for several years now, and I have found great Christmas and birthday presents, along with meeting new people and yes, enjoying the fall season!
You are able to actually visit many of the artist in their studios, watch them as they work on new material and talk to them about any questions you may have! You can purchase their pieces as you browse the merchandise.
There is also an artists reception and auction on Saturday night. Check out the Covered Bridge Studio Tour, which is going on October 7th to 9th.
Make sure to fill your gas tank, have your walking shoes on, and bring some cash to purchase from the artists. Remember to save your appetite so you can stop at one of the fantastic restaurants along the way, such as: Morton's Wiscons Inn (Cedarburg), Farmstead (Cedarburg), Harvey's (Mequon), Water Street Brewery (Grafton), etc.
Also, don't forget about the great carmel apples with different chocolates and toppings which both Sweet Trio (Grafton) and Amy's (Cedarburg)-it is almost always a necessary staple for every Fall Adventure! There are also many pumpkin patches, farmer's markets and apple orchards along the way to stop and get your favorite take home treats!
Have fun, if you see me make sure to say "hi!"

I know I have written about the Gallery Night and Day activities in the Third Ward, but I don't believe I have mentioned the MIAD Student Alumni Art Sale, which takes place the same weekend. I became aware of it last year, and I'm not sure if that was the first year or not. It was exciting to see MIAD student's exhibit their talents and have the opportunity to purchase their art. Click here for information, and here for Gallery Night and Day in the Third Ward information. They will provide you with information on who is all participating, a map to help you search out the artists you want to see and the dates and times.
While in the Third Ward, don't forget to bring your appetite with you. There are so many great restaurants to choose from, including the newest on the block: Cafe Benelux. We had brunch there about a month ago on a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning. It had a large crowd of hungry patrons, the service was excellent and the food was good (not great). Milwaukee Sail Loft is another new restaurant and a great view if it's nice out. Four of us had lunch there and it was warm enough that day to sit outside. The menu isn't huge, but enough to choose from. I had the Herb Crusted Cobia and it was excellent. Everyone who was with me enjoyed their meal and we all agreed we come back again. The service was "ok," hoping it was slow because it was busy...
There are oldies, but goodies as well: Coquette Cafe (love their whole menu-try to choose something different every time), The Wicked Hop (BEST Bloody Mary around, great atmosphere!), Water Buffalo (love their black bean burger!!), Tulip(anything on their appetizers), Palms(awesome menu, fun atmosphere!), etc.
Hoping it's a nice warm Fall weekend to enjoy the outdoors and some great art!!

Haven't gotten to the Harley Davidsom Museum? Here is a great excuse to go and see two exciting exhibits in one. After looking at all of the Harley Davidson artifacts in their museum building, why not stay and check out the 6th Annual Milwaukee Fine Furnishings and Fine Craft Show, which will be taking place this coming Friday through Sunday. Click here for information about the museum, dates and times to view the displays, or click here for information about the Craft show. Click on "Milwaukee" and the days, times and price information will be displayed.
There is a restaurant there: Motor, so plan on stopping in for lunch or dinner. Cafe Racer is also open during the day on Saturday or Sunday, so that is an option as well.
Make sure to bring your car or truck and not your motorcycle, so if you do find something to buy, you have a place to take it along home with you!! Don't forget, Christmas is less than three months from now...Start your Christmas shopping early!!

Just a reminder, especially with fall here and still wanting to do things outside and in. What a great way to enjoy the fall colors, eat some good food and enjoy Milwaukee. I have written about this company before and I just got a great email reminder of upcoming tours they are providing. Visit their website for more details.
Tonight they have their pizza tour, tomorrow (Saturday, September 10th) they have the Brady Street and Third Ward tours happening and on Sunday they have their popular Bloody Mary tour. Other tours that go with the holidays approaching are the Ghouls and Spirits Adult Trick or Treat Bus Tour and the Christmas around Milwaukee Bakery Bus Tour.
Have fun, no matter which tour you choose!!

On August 6th, a fun festival is happening: Third Ward Jazz Festival. It is only Saturday, so try to get to the Third Ward! There are a lot of activities going on:
- Iron Bartender 2011 champion (3 p.m.)
- Chefs of the Ward mixed basket competition (noon)
- Taste of the Ward-food from local restaurants provided throughout the day
AND, of course, since it is a Jazz Festival, there is music throughout the day. Click here for details!
On August 6th and 7th, bring your family to the Milwaukee lakefront to see the Milwaukee Air and Water Show. The water show starts first and is early, per the website, it starts at 9:15a.m. The Air show starts at 11a.m.
The State Fair has started as well, and is going on this weekend. I have written about the State Fair in the past, including some of the fun foods available. See what is new this year (country fried bacon with gravy!?!?!)
Whatever you decide to do, have fun!

I wrote about Old World Wisconsin in the past, (view October 1, 2009) and one of the fun activities they have is Vintage Baseball games. Well, they aren't the only ones! Another really neat place to visit for a summer day or weekend is the Wade House in Greenbush, Wisconsin.
I have been there a couple times with my son Zach in the past and really enjoyed the visit, but also the drive and the scenery going to and from Greenbush. You are taken back, like at Old World Wisconsin, to a bygone time, when there were stage coaches, horse drawn carriages, blacksmith shops, and sawmills in every town. One of the fun activities to watch is the 1860's "Base ball" game (it was two words back then). Can you believe in that time period there were no strike zones and the players didn't wear gloves?
Well, if this has peaked your interest at all, there is going to be a game played, July 24th (Sunday) at 1:30 p.m. rain or shine! Take your kids and show them how the game started, and they may be amazed to realize how far it has come since the 1860's!!
The Civil War reenactment is also a family fun experience, which the Wade House offers in September, another great part of our United States history to be shared and experienced with the children!
Have fun!!

The Milwaukee Lakefront is beautiful, no matter what time of year, but the summer season seems to be when most people decide to check the area out. What to do when at the lakefront? Well, put on your most comfortable shoes and park the car at the far end of Lake Drive. If you start at the north end, you can walk the beach, check out the lifeguards and swimmers, maybe wade in the water yourself for awhile. There are volleyball nets and there is always someone interested in playing, but get there early as they seem to fill up fast and be used most of the day.
When it comes to eating on the walk, you have several choices. There is the snack bar for late morning munchies which is right on the beach and near the volleyball nets. As you continue to walk south, you will find a favorite eatery of mine during the summer: Northpoint. It serves the tradional American meal: burgers, fries and shakes (custard and more). It is seasonal and opens May 21st, I can't wait!! This is an outdoor restaurant with no indoor seating, but they do provide picnic benches to sit down and take your time eating. If that is not of interest, keep on walking, and just a little bit further down and on the west side of the street you will come to Alterra. You can stop and relax outside or in and have a cup of coffee, sandwich and dessert. If you sit outside you have the opportunity to watch people playing tennis to the north or see the boats and club to the east.
Don't sit too long as we have more to explore! If you continue to the south, you will then come upon Veteran's Park, where you will see rollerbladders, bikers, kiteflying, people picnicing, etc. You are able to rent bikes, skates, kites and paddleboats at specific areas in the park. If you are interested in a more in depth learning experience, there is a segway tour of Milwaukee's Lakefront. Click here for more information.
But, you're not finished yet! Oh, no.. you have to continue your walk past the Milwaukee Art Museum, stop and look at the Calatrava and see if the wings have moved. Are they open or closed? Continue on as you pass the new Bartollotta's Restaurant: Harbor House. Discovery World is just across the street, and is something I will be specifically writing about soon. They have so many activities for the summer and a great place for families to hang out and have fun together!
We are still not finished! Keep going south, and you will find Lakeshore State Park. It is a beautiful place to stop and sit, look out over the lake or the city. In this park there are native grass/flower areas to enjoy, listening to the birds and the many insects.
And, last but not least, I cannot forget Maier Festival Park, the place with the world famous Summerfest. Click here to view all the festivals and activities at the Park. At the bottom of the page, click "events" and it will provide you with a Calendar of Events for 2011. First activity this year is the Miller Lite Ride for the Arts which will be held on June 5th.
Have fun!!

The Milwaukee Art Museum is one of my favorite places to visit periodically throughout the year. The exhibits presented to the public are usually outstanding, as are the classes they offer. We went to see the Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit on Sunday, February 13. Unbeknownst to us, it was actually written up in the paper that day, and I believe that may be why the crowd was larger.
We always purchase the audio tour to try and get as much information possible while touring an exhibit, so Sunday was no exception. I also want to note that I am an avid Frank Lloyd Wright admirer, going on the Frank Lloyd Wright walking tour in Oak Park each spring, completing tours in Chicago and Wisconsin. We have books and movies about his life and his work.
This exhibit is a different side of showing Mr. Wright. Typically one sees the “real” structure, the furniture, and hear the stories behind the man. At one of the tours David and I have been on, the homeowner actually had the original drawings from the home and laid them on the table for visitors to see. To be in the house and be able to touch and view the plans was amazing. This exhibit was more about his drawings than anything else. There were a few pieces of furniture, a few photos of the buildings which were built, and a couple videos, but most of the exhibit were the plans.
I have to say, I am torn. If I really didn’t know much about Frank Lloyd Wright, but was curious to learn more, this exhibit would have stopped me from looking any further. Part of the great intrigue, at least for me personally, is Mr. Wright’s personal life story and the history behind some of the buildings he designed and was then successful in building. This exhibit, including the audio, does not go into much detail about either of those intricate and necessary parts of who Frank Lloyd Wright was and why to this day he is admired, and by some, loathed. There are no specific details of his days growing up, his life in Chicago with his first wife and children, his scandolous affair, his life at Taliesin and the start of his art school. They do show the three Taliesin’s and mention the murders and the 2 fires, but it is a very small “blip” in the exhibit. One of the points in the exhibit that could have been greatly expounded upon is the S.C. Johnson building and his difficulty in proving the odd shaped columns could withstand the pressure. With it being in Racine, Wisconsin and being a great example of Frank Lloyd Wright Commercial buildings, it would have been a great compliment to show or mention how he demonstrated the strength of the pillars.
In the other aspect, it was great to see the plans for so many of his designs, and incredible how many of them were never built. But, again, it was only little “blips.” For the buildings which were built, David and I agreed, it would have been neat to see more photos. We have been in some of the properties and the insides, as well as the exteriors, and they are beautiful to visually see and many of the photos in the exhibit are very outdated.
It left me wanting more. David bought me a great tape on Frank Lloyd Wright for Christmas and I wanted to go straight home and watch it again, to be able to “complete” the tour. The video I am talking about, and would highly suggest for an excellent understanding of Frank Lloyd Wright as the man and architect is PBS Home Video’s “Frank Lloyd Wright: A Film by Ken Burns & Lynn Novick.”
Several other things I would suggest if you would like to learn more about Frank Lloyd Wright are as follows:
1. Tour of Taliesin per the website offers tours from April 28 through October 31.
2. UW-Milwaukee-Continuing Education Program offers different tours at different times of the year. On June 4, they are offering:“Frank Lloyd Wright in Madison,” Click on “courses & programs,” choose “focus on Wisconsin,” and scroll down. We have gone on a tour in the Milwaukee and outskirts area for Frank Lloyd Wright and it was an excellent tour!
3. Books: “Frank Lloyd Wright:The Houses” by Alan Hess, Alan Weintraub, Kenneth Frampton, and Thomas S. Hines is an excellent visual. “Loving Frank:A Novel” by Nancy Horan; “Frank Lloyd Wright:An Autobiography” by Frank Lloyd Wright are just a few of the books I would suggest reading.
4. One of the most fun and interesting tours is in Oak Park, Illinois. Homeowners open their homes to the public for one day in May for all to view. Many of the homes are Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs, but many are also from some of his contemporaries of the times. It is exciting to see the differences between architects of the time period and to also hear the stories behind the history of the home. Most have photos of what the home originally looked like and the changes that took place during the years to follow when the homeowner’s decided to add on or change the interior of the home. The homes have been renovated, obviously, to accomodate life for today. Many have painstakingly brought back some of the original features that were ripped out or discarded throughout the years. It’s a fabulous tour and a fun way to spend a day. If you do decide this is something of interest, may I warn you this is an all day affair, dress in layers and wear good walking shoes. AND, be prepared to stand in long lines to view the homes. It is well worth it. It also sells out every year, so get your tickets while they last!!
5. Another great source for tours of Frank Lloyd Wright and also other architects, including Louis Sullivan, is through Chicago Architecture Foundation.
These are obviously just the start of what you can see and do. Mr. Wright was not only part of the Wisconsin landscape and history, but built homes, commercial buildings and religious buildings throughout the United States and abroad. One of the buildings that I would have loved to have seen and wish it had not been destroyed, is the Imperial Hotel. That is another story in itself, and may be left for another blog. Don’t forget about Taliesin West, Falling Water, or many of the other buildings to visit on your travels outside of Wisconsin!
Have fun…and remember, feel free to comment or contact me with any real estate needs!

Who would have thought when I wrote about Green Bay and sights to see in the area back in August, that five months later we would be headed for the BIG GAME?!
To all the Green and Gold Fans out there.. Go Packers!! Let’s win the Super Bowl and bring the Vince Lombardi trophy home!
No matter if you are going to a bar, having a party at home or just watching the game alone, I’m sure it will be a combination of fun, emotion and stress for all.
A quick way to find a sports bar/tavern in your area, go to sportstavern.com. There are also many restaurants/grocery stores catering food for a home party, check with your local places for awesome food for the game!
My wish…. 24-10 Green Bay over Pittsburgh!!

With the Halloween season here and trick or treat”ing” around the corner, I wanted to send out a reminder to review my past blog from October, 2009. Titled ”Safety tips for a Fun and Safe Halloween” it’s great to sit down with your children and go over some rules and safety measures to make it a fun, but safe time!
I also wanted to add, that it’s not too late to visit a Haunted house. If you are not sure where to go and which one might fit your family or friends, go to www.hauntedhouse.com You can choose Wisconsin and it provides 33 different Haunted houses in Wisconsin to visit.
Another suggestion is to check out your local paper. There are many businesses who are doing Trick or Treat for smaller children.
Enjoy the day, October 31st, it’s my son’s 21st Birthday! Happy Birthday Zach!

Love to eat? Love to dine out? Not sure what restaurant to go to or what area of Milwaukee to visit? Not sure what the Third Ward has to offer, or what restaurants are good on Brady Street?
I have found out a fun, new way to try several different restaurants in one night and come away feeling full and satisfied! How can you do that you ask me?
VERY EASY: Visit www.milwaukeefoodtours.com
My son called and asked if we could do something together on Saturday night. I asked if he had a suggestion on what to do and he did not. I decided I would go on the internet and see what was happening around Milwaukee on Sept. 4th. When I Googled the information, one of the suggestions that came up was the website above. I reviewed the website and found this could be a really fun activity for my son and myself. During the year, my boyfriend and I have the opportunity to go to many restaurants in the Milwaukee and Chicago area, and I consider myself a HUGE FOODIE, but I can only afford to go to a restaurant once or twice a week and we do have our “favorites” we like to go back to. So, what a great way to try other places I haven’t been to! And, my son is a cook and loves food as well so it was a wonderful way to spend a mom and son night together
My son and I decided to go on the Third Ward tour and we had a blast. We were excited to see that we knew the tour guide and it was a lot of fun meeting new people. The owner of the company was along for the tour and we had the opportunity to speak to her several times during the evening. To hear from her directly about her past and what caused her and her husband to make the decision to start the business gave a bit more appreciation to the tour. It was a great mix of individuals from the area and those who were here for special occasions (anniversaries) or on a vacation.
We had the opportunity to try the following places on Saturday night:
The Soup & Stock Market at the Milwaukee Public Market. We had their corn chowder and it was very good. It was the perfect way to start the evening due to the cool weather.
We then walked to Rustico Pizzeria-Enoteca. My boyfriend and I had just tried Rustico a couple weeks ago and had enjoyed our meal, so it was nice to come back. We had tried the “Toscana” and it was good, but the “Margherita” pizza we ate on the tour was exceptional. It was not just one piece of pizza that was brought out for each one of us. NO, it was 3 whole, large pizzas and each individual had the opportunity to have at least 2-3 pieces. The pomodora sauce was tangy and seasoned well, the flavor of the crust was buttery and the texture light and crispy. There was just enough basil on the pizza to bring out a good scent and flavor, but not overpowering. The only disappointing part, for me, was the lack of mozzarella on the pizza and I would specifically ask for extra on my return visit.
Our next stop was at Hinterland. At this stop, the tour gave us the opportunity to try their beer. I do not drink beer so I passed. Everyone that tested the beer gave it a thumbs up. I do want to mention that it is a restaurant that I have wanted to try, but have not had the time to do so yet. Going inside and viewing the decor, atmosphere, and menu definitely makes me want to come back for dinner soon.
Tulip is a couple blocks away and we had the opportunity to speak to others on the tour while walking to this restaurant. This is another restaurant I had been to in the past and it was nice to be able to come back and try something else. We had the opportunity to try several of their appetizers. The Hummus is fantastic and would suggest anybody that likes Hummus to try this one. The pita bread that accompanies the spread is thin, light and delicious. We also were given grape leaves which on the menu are described as: “stuffed with rice, red currants and toasted pine nuts and fused together with dill, olive oil and cinnamon.” Note this appetizer is cold. We also passed around a dish of Sak Suka. What is that you ask? Per the menu it is a mixture of “eggplant, zucchini, onions, bell peppers, garlic and tomatoes toasted in olive oil and lemon juice.” It was very good and a great appetizer for anyone who is a vegetarian or likes their vegetables!
The next restaurant we visited is a NEW restaurant to the area and has only been open for a couple weeks. Chili Lili’s is open, airy and well lit. With autumn officially around the corner, what a great place to come and enjoy a warm dish of chili and corn bread! The corn bread is out of this world and we were given a dish of southwest chili. This is not a “little” bowl of chili, this is a meal. The owner came out and met with us and told us about their homemade pickled peppers(mmm..!!!) and their habenero chili (HOT!! Spicy hot!!). My son was intrigued and loves hot, so he purchased an order to go for himself and my boyfriend. I taste tested it before leaving the restaurant and it is excellent. Hot, but excellent! My boyfriend reheated some of it the following day and also gave it a big thumbs up and also loved the corn bread!
We ended our tour by stopping at a wine bar (do not know the name). We were supposed to go to Cuvee’s but apparently they had a previous engagement and we were diverted to the wine bar instead. We were provided the choice of a glass of wine or a natural soda and given a wonderful mint meltaway. We were also given a small packet of seasoning from The Spice House.
It was approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes and a great way to spend a nice Saturday night. Both my son and I went home having enjoyed a wonderful night together and experiencing some new tastes and sites.
Again, please visit the Milwaukee Food Tours website. Other areas to try for tours are: Brady Street and Riverwalk/Old World Third Street (there is one tour that appears available for the Village of Wauwatosa). This company also has seasonal tours which include a Bloody Mary Brunch and also a Ghouls and Spirits Adult Trick - or - Treat tour.

NO matter if you have lived in Wisconsin your entire life, or if you have just relocated here, a fun weekend getaway is to visit Green Bay!
What is there to do in Green Bay you ask? Oh, where do I begin?
First of all, if you are into art and festivals(lots of music), next weekend is the perfect time to visit Green Bay. ArtStreet 2010 is happening August 27th-29th. Please click here for add’l information. It is a lot of fun and a great way to start to tour of Green Bay!
Okay, you now have taken up several hours of your day, what to do next? Well, the best place to view what can all be seen in Green Bay is to go to either visit www.greenbay.com which is the Greater Green Bay and Lakeshore website or Green Bay’s Offiicial Website.
But for a few of my favorites:
Green Bay Farmers Market
The Farmers Market goes through October 30 from 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon for the 2010 season. Have children and want to bring them along? Yes, there is a lot for them to do and see as well!
Bay Beach Amusement Park
Bay Beach is a lot of fun for adults and children. Not only are there rides and things to do during the day, there are also special events such as Movie nights which go on Saturday nights at dusk.
And, of course I can’t forget about our Green Bay Packers and the Hall of Fame. For all activities, directions, hours, etc., click here.
There is even a declared ”Kid’s Day” in Green Bay which is June 25th, every year!
So many things to do and see, you might want to come back again and again!!

Hello Everyone, can you believe it’s almost a year since I wrote about chocolate dipped bacon? What is the Wisconsin State Fair going to have new this year? When is the Wisconsin State Fair? How much is it this year?
All these questions and much more can be answered by going to: http://wistatefair.com. It’s actually pretty neat, they have the days, hours, minutes and seconds to opening!
Have fun and maybe I’ll see you there, trying something new and exciting!

Now that June is over and the rain has appeared to end(please?), are you looking for something to do on the weekend? Maybe an art air? A really big art fair with food? A really big art fair with food in a beautiful setting?
I have been to this Art fair many times and really enjoy the whole day. Have you ever been to Madison? Yes or no, it’s a great place to go and spend the day or weekend, there is so much to do and see.
Madison Art Fair on the Square is on July 10th and 11th this year. Go to http://www.mmoca.org/events/artfair for add’l information on times, parking, etc.
They are stating there will approximately 450 artists there this year. Not only are there artists right on the circle of the Capital, but they flow down the street (Art fair off the Square). There are food vendors and also a small market.
State street is bustling and people are having fun! There is music and dancers. For a full schedule, please go to the above site under Music and performance schedules.
Enjoy the weekend, I will definitely be there!

A perfectly hit ball in golf will always navigate towards water. That’s what happens to people in southeastern Wisconsin over Memorial Day Weekend….we roll toward the water. At lunch today, I passed jet skies and boat being hauled around, waiting for their turn to tee off into cool clear bodies of water. Summer is in full swing - and Wisconsinites make the best out of every day in the sun we have. Grab your sunscreen - and have a Great Memorial Day Weekend!

Tune into a community-based station on 88.9 (88nine) FM to hear some great happenings around town. They describe their playlist as "Diverse music for a diverse city" and it couldn’t ring more true. Hope you enjoy this alternative station. And make sure you stay tuned for the news - always great bands playing around town can be heard here first!

If you are visiting Milwaukee’s downtown near noon, grab your lunch “to go” and head to the lakefront to see the spectacular Calatrava “flapping” its wings. Almost everyday when the Milwaukee Art Museum opens, so do the “wings” of our city’s most photographed and recognizable structure.
At lunch time, Milwaukeeians get to witness the white wings of the structure closing and reopening (flapping) as if a bird in flight over the water. At the end of the day, the wings stay closed when the museum closes.
Recently on a guided city tour with newcomers, we stopped at the museum midday and the wings were closed. Kay Collins of KBC Tour Company informed our group that because the winds reached over 23 mph that day, the sensors on the Burke Brise prevented the wings from opening.
Without too much disappointment, our guests headed inside MAM to witness the remarkable repetitive lines and curves of this amazing showpiece as you are free to walk along the hallways visit the coffee shop to experience this treasure. So make sure you not only admire it from the outside, but peak inside next time you are downtown Milwaukee - don’t just fly by.

If you move to Wisconsin, it won’t be long before you experience Wisconsin Dells – “The Dells” . I tried to keep the Waterpark Capital of the World (as it is known) a secret from my two young children – because once you go – you’ll get begged to come back again and again like the five million other annual visitors.
(Wisconsin Dells gets its name from the dell of the Wisconsin River, a scenic glacially formed gorge with striking sandstone formations.)
It is home to 18 indoor waterparks and 3 outdoor waterparks. The Dells covers 70 acres of natural beauty and modern marvels – including the largest outdoor waterpark in the United States – Noah’s Ark. If you take the family on a trip here – be prepared to come back again!

Looking for something to do this coming weekend, Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th, 2009? Want to stay in the Milwaukee area and enjoy the arts?
My suggestion, and what I am going to do on Friday night is visit the Historic Thrid Ward Gallery Night and Day. For hours, parking, participants and map, go to www.historicthirdward.org. Find “Events” and scroll down to “Gallery Night and Day”. And one of the best thing about it? It’s free to visit each venue during the event hours, unless of course you find a piece of art that you can’t live without!
I have visited this event many times in the past and I am looking forward to another visit. A new gallery just opened up in the historic Marshall building(207 E. Buffalo), Merge Gallery, and I will be checking out the four artists that will be on display. This isn’t the only gallery in the building, make sure to check out the others as well.
AND, don’t forget to eat! Water Buffalo, Milwaukee Ale House, Swigs, Palms, Coquette Cafe, Wicked Hop and many others.. too many to list them all!

Haven’t been to the Wisconsin State Fair Yet?
So, you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Wisconsin State Fair, well, you still have a couple days left! I was able to go on Monday, 8/10/09 and as always, it was a fun time! It is always a hard decision where to start, what to look at first, and what is it that I am going to eat! Well this year, prior to the fair starting, I heard there was going to be a new delicacy: Chocolate covered bacon on a stick! Ok, stop for a second and think about what reaction you just had and what your facial expression is. Intrigued, disgusted, mouth drooling? I would say I had a combination of all those, but I vowed I would seek out this new treat and at least try it.
We had to walk around for quite awhile before I started seeing people with this odd food on a stick, but as I got closer to “The Machine Shed” I saw more and more individuals taking the challenge. They all looked like they were enjoying their chocolate bacon on a stick.
At The Machine Shed, they were selling them 2 for $3, a pretty good price, right? Well, all I am going to say, is that it is something that everyone should try at least once. Prior to purchasing the delicacy I did poll some people and most stated it was “alright” or “really good”. I will say, I tried it, the chocolate was really good and when you ate a piece of bacon meat with the chocolate it was good. I, personally, will stick with the Wisconsin State Cream Puff in the future. (Yes, I had one of those on Monday too!)
We had talked about going through the fair and having our entire dinner on sticks. It could be a very fun adventure for an entire family. We also wondered how many items are actually on a stick.we just never realized all the foods they offered! Check out their website, it’s incredible what is all offered on a stick at the Wisconsin State Fair!
Be sure to visit, if you can’t this year, it’s something to put on the calendar for next year!! Who knows what they will have added for food on a stick by then!

Milwaukee’s outdoor music venues have grown in popularity during our power packed summers, so it was refreshing to be at a concert with so little traffic or crowded walkways as the Sharon Wilson Center’s sprawling fields allowed for Frisbee players and dog walkers to join in as casual onlookers. Kids and
coffee, stars and strums, bongo lines and percussion rhythms all partook as Jesse Cook and company performed in the Brookfield field.
But questions from the audience? At an outdoor summer concert? Jesse Cook answered his fans personal questions on Saturday, August 1st. Was it the serene Sharon Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield, Wisconsin that allowed the artist to reach out with confidence - or are Milwaukeen’s just that friendly and approachable?
The first time I heard his music, I found it a cross between the Gipsy Kings and Ottmar Liebert. Then learned at the concert while spending 10 years in Arles, France, Jesse found his passion while living (what are the chances) next door to Nicolas Reyes from the Gipsy Kings. Now living in Canada (you’ll just have to read his biography to see how he ended up North), Milwaukeen’s got a real treat with both his performance, personal interaction, and a perfect night under the stars.
