Just a reminder, especially with fall here and still wanting to do things outside and in. What a great way to enjoy the fall colors, eat some good food and enjoy Milwaukee. I have written about this company before and I just got a great email reminder of upcoming tours they are providing. Visit their website for more details.
Tonight they have their pizza tour, tomorrow (Saturday, September 10th) they have the Brady Street and Third Ward tours happening and on Sunday they have their popular Bloody Mary tour. Other tours that go with the holidays approaching are the Ghouls and Spirits Adult Trick or Treat Bus Tour and the Christmas around Milwaukee Bakery Bus Tour.
Have fun, no matter which tour you choose!!

On August 6th, a fun festival is happening: Third Ward Jazz Festival. It is only Saturday, so try to get to the Third Ward! There are a lot of activities going on:
- Iron Bartender 2011 champion (3 p.m.)
- Chefs of the Ward mixed basket competition (noon)
- Taste of the Ward-food from local restaurants provided throughout the day
AND, of course, since it is a Jazz Festival, there is music throughout the day. Click here for details!
On August 6th and 7th, bring your family to the Milwaukee lakefront to see the Milwaukee Air and Water Show. The water show starts first and is early, per the website, it starts at 9:15a.m. The Air show starts at 11a.m.
The State Fair has started as well, and is going on this weekend. I have written about the State Fair in the past, including some of the fun foods available. See what is new this year (country fried bacon with gravy!?!?!)
Whatever you decide to do, have fun!

Looking for a restaurant to try which serves "American" cuisine?
OpenTable states these are the Top 10 to try:
- Geneva Chophouse
- Buck and Honeys
- Mason Street Grill (been there, it is excellent food and service!)
- North Star American Bistro-Shorewood (Great Fish Fry!!)
- North Star American Bistro-Brookfield (Great Crab Cakes, Try any of their Soups and Salads for lunch!)
- Rock Bottom Brewery-Milwaukee (have been to this restaurant too many times to count, have never had a bad meal! Great apps, salads, sandwiches and desserts!)
- Timmer's Resort (I was there prior to the rebuild and it is an absolutely beautiful place. Service is good, the food is as well. Great place to have a special celebration.)
- Smyth at The Iron Horse Hotel (Great atmosphere!)
- Water Buffalo (Another one that I have been to often.. Great Food-my favorite is the black bean burger and for dessert the baked choc. chip cookie that comes in a pan!!)
- Envoy
Have fun trying these restaurants as they are in different parts of Milwaukee and surrounding areas, a great excuse to take a drive on a sunny day!

I was talking to my coworker, Kenna, yesterday and we were discussing going to Summerfest.
I told her I had the "to do" list... "Must have," "Must See," "Must Do." Anyone who has ever been there can understand what I'm saying... What does your list consist of? Mine? Well...
"Must Have:"
I gotta have several of the same food items every year:
- Saz's Mozarella Sticks-my once a year indulgence!! THIS IS MY APPETIZER!! It is located at the Northwestern Mutual Children's Area/Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Fiat Sportzone.
- NEXT is my main course-now this has changed almost every year, but each time I have enjoyed the food. Depending on where you are in summerfest when you decide you are really hungry and ready for your "big meal," I would suggest:
- Mader's, Rupena's (Miller Lite Oasis), Usinger's Wurst Garden (Ethnic Village), Greek Village(a couple different areas). I have been to the restaurant "La Perla" and love their food there, so I can just imagine it is just as good at the Summerfest Grounds.
- For dessert it's a given. I usually go for two different places. Cedar Crest (ice cream), which is back to the Northwestern Mutual Children's area and also the Strudel that is made right there. I'm not sure if the company's name is Rudy's? I know they are from out of state and so I make sure I get several different kinds and take them home for future enjoyment.
Okay, for "Must See," that changes every year depending on the bands.
- This year I am definitely going to be there to see Meatloaf perform! I grew up listening to his albums (yes, back then it was albums.. and 8 tracks- and yes, I just dated myself!!). I can hardly wait to see him finally live (though his hair is cut and he has lost a lot of weight-not the same Meatloaf)!!
- Other oldies, but goodies-REO Speedwagon, Panic! at the disco, George Clinton, Styx, Maroon 5 (!!!awesome!!!), Loretta Lynn.. I could go on and on. Click here for the best place to look for the complete lineup.
And last, but not least-"Must Do:"
- I love going over by the US Marines area to watch the guys and girls try to do pull ups. I was an athlete, but was never good at doing them, so I am always impressed with anyone who can do more than one!!
- And, the most fun thing to do anytime of day and night is going on the "ski lift." Going from one end of the grounds to the next and looking over everything is so much fun!!
Whatever you have, whatever you see, and whatever you do, I'm sure you will have a blast!!
As always, your feedback is welcome!!

One way to know summer is on its way is to see the art fair season start around Wisconsin and Illinois. One of the first fairs that I have been to in the past and have really enjoyed is at the Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair at Sunset Park, 747 N. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. It will be May 28th through 29th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more information.
There is food available as well, but don't forget the wonderful restaurants and other stores in the downtown area (my favorite being Monticello on Jefferson). It is a great store to find fine clothing, designed jewelry, books which you may not see or notice at large bookstores, and so much more. Make sure and plan to stay the day or stay at one of the many small hotels in the area, with it being Memorial Day weekend, maybe stay the whole weekend and visit the other towns in the Door County area. As always, let me know how your trip went and what other exciting treasures you find!

I know there are a possibly a few individuals out there who do not like chocolate. To those of you who are in this category, you do not need to read any further.
For those who love chocolate and are looking for something to do this weekend, Friday, May 27th through Monday, May 30th, this a great opportunity to taste test lots of chocolatey treats.
Sample of chocolatiers who will be there: Melli Chocolates, Aztec Gold Gourmet Chocolates, Dove Chocolate Discoveries, etc.
There is a chocolate eating contact, "Chef Meltdown," Choco Minute-to-Win-it, Chocolate Indulgence wine, beer and chocolate tasting event (which requires a separate ticket), etc.
Have fun!

The Milwaukee Lakefront is beautiful, no matter what time of year, but the summer season seems to be when most people decide to check the area out. What to do when at the lakefront? Well, put on your most comfortable shoes and park the car at the far end of Lake Drive. If you start at the north end, you can walk the beach, check out the lifeguards and swimmers, maybe wade in the water yourself for awhile. There are volleyball nets and there is always someone interested in playing, but get there early as they seem to fill up fast and be used most of the day.
When it comes to eating on the walk, you have several choices. There is the snack bar for late morning munchies which is right on the beach and near the volleyball nets. As you continue to walk south, you will find a favorite eatery of mine during the summer: Northpoint. It serves the tradional American meal: burgers, fries and shakes (custard and more). It is seasonal and opens May 21st, I can't wait!! This is an outdoor restaurant with no indoor seating, but they do provide picnic benches to sit down and take your time eating. If that is not of interest, keep on walking, and just a little bit further down and on the west side of the street you will come to Alterra. You can stop and relax outside or in and have a cup of coffee, sandwich and dessert. If you sit outside you have the opportunity to watch people playing tennis to the north or see the boats and club to the east.
Don't sit too long as we have more to explore! If you continue to the south, you will then come upon Veteran's Park, where you will see rollerbladders, bikers, kiteflying, people picnicing, etc. You are able to rent bikes, skates, kites and paddleboats at specific areas in the park. If you are interested in a more in depth learning experience, there is a segway tour of Milwaukee's Lakefront. Click here for more information.
But, you're not finished yet! Oh, no.. you have to continue your walk past the Milwaukee Art Museum, stop and look at the Calatrava and see if the wings have moved. Are they open or closed? Continue on as you pass the new Bartollotta's Restaurant: Harbor House. Discovery World is just across the street, and is something I will be specifically writing about soon. They have so many activities for the summer and a great place for families to hang out and have fun together!
We are still not finished! Keep going south, and you will find Lakeshore State Park. It is a beautiful place to stop and sit, look out over the lake or the city. In this park there are native grass/flower areas to enjoy, listening to the birds and the many insects.
And, last but not least, I cannot forget Maier Festival Park, the place with the world famous Summerfest. Click here to view all the festivals and activities at the Park. At the bottom of the page, click "events" and it will provide you with a Calendar of Events for 2011. First activity this year is the Miller Lite Ride for the Arts which will be held on June 5th.
Have fun!!

A perfectly hit ball in golf will always navigate towards water. That’s what happens to people in southeastern Wisconsin over Memorial Day Weekend….we roll toward the water. At lunch today, I passed jet skies and boat being hauled around, waiting for their turn to tee off into cool clear bodies of water. Summer is in full swing - and Wisconsinites make the best out of every day in the sun we have. Grab your sunscreen - and have a Great Memorial Day Weekend!
